Crosby, Fleury Guide Penguins to Victory Over Flames
The Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome tonight. Marc-Andre Fleury, who was fresh off a 2-0 shutout win against the Edmonton Oilers, got the start in goal for the Penguins. Jonas Hiller got the start for the Flames. The Penguins drew first blood when Chris Kunitz found David Perron who fired the puck past Hiller to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead at 5:46 of the first period. The Flames got their first power play opportunity of the game at 7:26 when Penguins' forward Steve Downie was assessed a two-minute tripping penalty. The Flames were unable to cash in. The Penguins expanded their lead to 2-0 when Brandon Sutter buried a shot past Hiller at 18:10. After one period of play, the Penguins led 2-0. The Penguins got their first power play opportunity at 6:24 when Flames' defenseman Raphael Diaz was called for a two-minute holding penalty. The Penguins were unable to score. The Penguins increased their lead to 3-0 when Sidney Crosby rifled a shot past Hiller at 11:58 of the second period. The Flames got another power play opportunity at 15:11 when Penguins' forward Evgeni Malkin was given a two-minute high-sticking penalty. The Flames were unable to score. The Penguins got another power play opportunity at 18:55 when Flames' forward David Jones was called for a four-minute high-sticking penalty. The Penguins were unable to score in the final 1:05 of the second period. After two periods of play, the Penguins held a 3-0 lead.
