Comeau's Return Helps Penguins Top Red Wings
The Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against the Detroit Red Wings last night at Consol Energy Center. Marc-Andre Fleury got the start in goal for the Penguins and Petr Mrazek got the start for the Red Wings. The Penguins got on the board first when Patric Hornqvist sniped the puck past Mrazek to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead at 1:51. Blake Comeau, making his return from a wrist injury, scored his 12th goal of the season at 12:15 to expand the Penguins' lead to 2-0. After one period of play, the Penguins led 2-0. David Perron boosted the Penguins' lead to 3-0 at 3:04 of the second period with his 14th goal of the season. Nick Spaling increased the lead to 4-0 at 7:52 with his eighth goal of the season. At 13:02, Penguins' forward Steve Downie was assessed a two-minute hooking penalty. The Red Wings cashed in on their lone power play opportunity, as Stephen Weiss scored at 13:26 to cut the Penguins' lead to 4-1. The score held true through the rest of the second period and all of the third period. The Penguins won the game by a score of 4-1.
