Detroit Red Wings' defenseman Niklas Kronwall was suspended for one game for charging. At 18:55 of the second period in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Kronwall hit Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov. Though no penalty was called on the play, the league declared that this was illegal and gave him a one-game ban. Kronwall, 34, registered nine goals, 35 assists, and 44 points in 80 games this season.

New York Rangers' forward Mats Zuccarello is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. He was injured in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Pittsburgh Penguins after he was hit by a shot from Rangers' defenseman Ryan McDonagh. Zuccarello, 27, registered 15 goals, 34 assists, and 49 points in 78 games this season.

Marcel Pronovost Dies
Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman Marcel Pronovost has died. He was 84. Pronovost played in 1,206 career games for the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. He registered 88 goals, 257 assists, and 345 points in his career. He also won the Stanley Cup five times as a player and three times as a scout.

The Buffalo Sabres fired head coach Ted Nolan. Nolan was hired on November 13, 2013 after Ron Rolston was fired. Nolan previously coached the Sabres from 1995 to 1997. In his second tenure as the Sabres' head coach, he led the Sabres to a record of (40-87-17). In addition to Nolan, assistant coach Danny Flynn was fired and general manager Tim Murray announced that the contracts of assistant coaches Bryan Trottier and Tom Coolen will not be renewed.

The Toronto Maple Leafs relieved interim head coach Peter Horachek and general manager Dave Nonis of their duties. Horachek took over after head coach Randy Carlyle was fired on January 7. Horachek led the Maple Leafs to a record of (9-28-5) in 42 games. Nonis was hired as the general manager on January 9, 2013. During his time as the general manager, the Maple Leafs had a record of (94-97-21) with a trip to the playoffs in 2013. In addition to Horachek and Nonis, assistant coaches Steve Spott and Chris Dennis, goaltending coach Rick St. Croix, director of pro scouting Steve Kasper, and director of player development Jim Hughes were fired.
