Maple Leafs Slam Ducks to Extend Streak to Six
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been on fire. Coming into the game, the Leafs had a five-game win streak. They put that streak on the line, as they faced the Anaheim Ducks at the Air Canada Centre. Jonathan Bernier got the start for the Maple Leafs and Frederik Andersen got the start for the Ducks. The Maple Leafs drew first blood with Tyler Bozak's 12th goal of the season at 15:12 of the first period. After one period of play, the score was 1-0 in favor of Toronto. The Maple Leafs increased their lead to 2-0 when Joffrey Lupul scored at 1:31 of the second period. The Ducks cut the lead in half when Sami Vatanen scored a short-handed goal at 13:13. After two periods of play, the Maple Leafs held a 2-1 lead. The Maple Leafs expanded their lead to 3-1 when David Booth scored his first goal as a member of the Maple Leafs at 4:37. Nazem Kadri boosted the lead to 4-1 with his ninth goal of the season at 5:28. Ducks' forward Ryan Kesler scored at 8:35 to cut the lead to 4-2. At 15:04, Ducks' forward Patrick Maroon was assessed a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The Maple Leafs capitalized on the power play, as Phil Kessel scored at 15:23 to boost Toronto's lead to 5-2. Kessel scored again at 18:17 to increase the score to 6-2. The score held true and the Maple Leafs won 6-2 to extend their winning streak to six games.
