Red Wings Name Jeff Blashill as Head Coach
The Detroit Red Wings hired Jeff Blashill as their new head coach. Blashill, 41, previously served as the head coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Red Wings. In three seasons as their head coach, he compiled a record of (134-71-23). He lead the Griffins to the Calder Cup Playoffs in all three seasons and lead the team to a Calder Cup Championship in the 2012-13 season. Blashill will replace Mike Babcock, who was hired as the new head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
